What is this ‘Opening the Heart of Jericho’?
Opening the Heart of Jericho was a series of creative community interventions by Clare Cochrane in the historic Oxford community of Jericho during 2011.
‘Community’ and ‘communicate come from the same root: ‘communis’ – both words are about what we have in common. A healthy community is a sustainable self-reinforcing system; as we communicate with each other, our shared history feeds our shared future – we re-create our community through conversation, we open our hearts through dialogue.
The interventions in this project were designed to creatively bring conscious awareness to a historic community facing great change. A booklet will be made available to download so you can try any of this at home…

Opening the Heart of Jericho is dedicated to Paul Cullen (1944-2011) whose paper, Effects of development proposals on Jericho – November 2010, inspired this project, and whose generous cups of tea nourished the seeds of my creative ideas.
